THE LATERAL PIECE
The Lateral Piece - is inspired by traditional stories about the power of lateral thinking. Think of Alexander the Great and the Gordian Knot, Columbus and the egg, … Whatever their form, the message is constant: creativity defeats hard problems.
Karel De Mulder decided to join that long line of creative corner cutters while solving the hard problem of solving jigsaw puzzles. Rather than spending precious hours piecing an astronaut together, his lateral solution was to recycle all pieces - using water, a blender and a mould (the basic method of recycling paper). This way De Mulder created one large puzzle piece — its dimensions exactly those of the original puzzle.
So if conventional thinking fails, there is always another way to address a challenge. Courage is all that is required (and, possibly, a blender)
